在太空中自由翱翔

說明： 在太空中自由翱翔會是什麼感覺？ 距離 太空梭 的貨艙約 100 公尺處，布魯斯・麥肯德利斯二世正把夢想化為現實- 他在當時創下人類飄離載具最遠的紀錄，於真空中無拘無束地在太空中自由漂浮（見照片）。 他的行動由載人機動裝置（MMU）引導。 在 1984 年的 太空梭任務 41-B 期間，麥肯德利斯 與搭檔、NASA 太空人 羅伯特・史都華，首次體驗了這種「無繫留」的太空行走。 MMU以噴射氮氣產生反作用力，可用於協助部署與回收衛星等任務。 雖然其質量超過 140 公斤，MMU 在 地球 上相當笨重，但在軌道上與萬物一樣處於失重環境中。 後來，MMU 被簡易艙外活動救援輔助系統 SAFER 所取代。
