說明: 天空中的北美洲星雲，能做到地球上的北美洲無法做到的事——形成恆星。 較具體來說，形似地球北美洲明亮東岸的天鵝座牆，其實是氣體、塵埃和新誕生恆星的複合體。 如這幅主題影像所示，這道恆星誕生之牆正受到年輕亮星的照耀和侵蝕，而這些新恆星所產生的黝黑塵埃也遮掩了部分的牆體。 影像所呈現的部分北美洲星雲 （NGC 7000），寬約50光年，位於天鵝 座方向約1,500光年遠之處。
