史瓦3號彗星碎裂

說明: 週期彗星73P/史瓦3號彗星至少曾發生2次崩解。 這團由冰與塵埃所聚成的宇宙級舒芙蕾，是早期太陽系的孑遺，它在1995年回歸運行到最鄰近太陽的區段時，裂解成數塊大碎片。 而在2006年的回歸時，這顆彗星更進一步崩解成幾十塊、綿延數度天區的碎片。 因為彗星相對脆弱，來到火熱的太陽附近時，熱、重力、及排氣都有可能讓它們發生這種大規模的崩解。 哈伯太空望遠鏡在2006年，為"多產"的碎片B記錄了這幅清晰影像。 碎片B後頭則有數十塊小碎片跟隨，而每一塊都有自已的彗髮及彗尾。 這幅影像的跨幅超過3,000公里，拍照的當時，這顆彗星離地球有3千2百萬公里遠。（73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 73P/史瓦3號彗星）
