珍珠串

說明： 舒梅克-列維9號彗星（Shoemaker-Levy 9）的名稱來自它的二位共同發現者，另它也常稱為是 "珍珠串" 彗星，它因串珠的外觀及撞上木星而聲名大著。這個彗星原來的單一彗核， 1992年在行近本太陽系最大的行星─木星時，被木星強大的重力撕碎。這些碎片在這張哈伯望遠鏡的合成照中，像是串在彗星軌道上的珍珠。在1994年七月，這些碎片與木星相撞，造成稀有且壯觀的天文事件。
